A cover song for summer
Just a quick note to share with you a fun cover I did two summers ago here in Montreal.
Myself, Peter X and Loel Campbell got together at Matt Lederman’s one sweltering night during the peak of the student protests and knocked out one of my favourite Bob Dylan songs. Matt recorded the whole thing and mixed it much later. Thought I’d share it with you all. Enjoy!

Summer plans
A little bit of news for you all.
There are a few shows coming up for the summer, and more to be added throughout the fall and beyond, but you already knew that.New Podcast:
In other news, I have posted a new version of the Mind Parade podcast. Thus Owls chatted with me about their new record and their process of making the music they do. Check it out!
Julie Doiron & the Wooden Stars shows:
Also, aside from the MF shows, there is something else quite special brewing. It turns out that this year is the 15th anniversary of the album we made as Julie Doiron & the Wooden Stars. It’s a great album, and we never toured it as such – most of the mass of touring that we did was done before this record was made. Anyhow, we are doing a small string of shows in August, and we’ll be very happy to see you if you can make it to any of them.
August 20, Arboretum Festival, Ottawa
August 21, Horseshoe Tavern, Toronto
August 22, La Sala Rossa , Montreal
August 23, Peterborough Folk Fest , Peterborough
See you soon. Also check out the MF shows.

Well it’s summer
I’ve just wrapped up production of a new full-length, which won’t see the light of day until at least a year or so from now. I’m excited for people to hear it, but in the meantime there’s lots of work still to do in bringing Tambourine Death Bed and Singer Songer to the world. I can’t help but feel these records haven’t reached all the people that want to hear them. So, watch for shows throughout the summer and beyond.
Singer Songer sees Feuerstack and his “associates” take his wry storytelling and sonic picture-making in new directions, with a fresh vocalist on each track. The result is enjoyably cohesive, even as your ears shift from Devon Sproule’s dreamy reverie to a wistful shuffle from Constantines’ Bry Webb, and the Weakerthans’ John K. Samson is instantly recognizable on the character piece Friday Night Guard. But Feuerstack lingers on, providing guitar and backing vocals, likely smiling from ear to ear as his friends shine new light into his lyrical corners. – Stephen Cooke, The Chronical Herald
The intimacy of Feuerstack’s keen observations, whether in the flowers that grow in a city or the striking fact that “you’re too young to be so old,” hits listeners square between the eyes without any overcomplicated arrangements clouding the powerful significance of his lyrics. – Melody Lau, Exclaim.
Things have slowed down a little, and that’s a good thing. I’ve got a new skateboard and a bit of free time. Happy summer.

Spring update
SINGER SONGER IS OUT NOW EVERYWHERE AND EVERYHOW
Don’t be fooled! Although the beautiful limited edition blue vinyl version of Songer Songer came out on Record Store Day, it is now also available on CD and digital formats. Of course LPs are also still available. Track it down from Whitehorse YK’s Headless Owl Records and/or Halifax’s Forward Music. I am really proud if this project, and very happy it’s now available to anyone who wants it. Read about it and hear tracks in the previous blog posts.
SAPPY FOREVER BOOK LAUNCH TOUR
I’ll be playing a few shows this month, on the Sappy Forever launch tour. Sappy Forever is a coffee table book celebrating the first 8 years of Sappy Fest, which is a music festival that happens each year in Sackville NB. See the dates page. Also more information here: http://ymlp.com/zzlbFl
OTHER NEWS
I’ve just returned from Whitehorse, where Headless Owl were awesome enough to invite me to do a show to celebrate the release of Singer Songer. Beautiful show, beautiful people. I left there feeling pretty lucky and grateful.
Besides that, I have been working away a new recording. Tracking is completed and I am deep in mix world, learning as I go. The record will be done by the end of June, but I suppose it will likely be a long time before I get a chance to share it. After all, Singer Songer just hit the streets.
Other than all that, keep an ear out for shows peppered throughout the summer – and bigger plans crystallizing for the autumn… I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks for reading.

Singer Songer on it’s way to you!
Dear everyone,
I am a little late getting this one up, but here you go. Laurel ‘Little Scream‘ Sprengelmeyer tears up your heart and patches it back up with her take on this number. Enjoy. This is the last one to be posted before the record comes out for real on Saturday!

Record Store Day is imminent. I’ll be celebrating by spending a lot of money on records. I’ll also do a little performance at 6pm at my neighbourhood store Phonopolis. Come out if you are in the Montreal area.
Incidentally, you can hear me sing a couple songs from ‘Singer Songer’ (as well as a very old song from the very first Snailhouse record). Check out the session!

MF & Associates, featuring Mathias Kom (Burning Hell)
Hi all,
Here is the latest “Singer Songer” track to be made public. It features my friend and yours, the basin voiced Mathias Kom (AKA The Burning Hell). I wrote this song knowing exactly how it would sound on him, but it didn’t make it any less magic when I finally heard the man himself sing it. I hope you enjoy it too…

And another!
April 19th is coming – Singer Songer will finally be available…
For now, we’re just teasing them out one at a time.
Here’s “Did I?”, which features Bry Webb on vocals. I alwasy think of this stylistically as a tiny bit of a nod to JJ Cale who we lost last year. Bry delivered it exactly as I’d hoped he would. Enjoy![soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/140210832″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_artwork=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
For those of you just tuning in, Singer Songer is an album I made – a collection of songs that I wrote and produced for other people to sing. The album is chock-full of guests who rule.
It comes out on limited edition blue vinyl on Record Store Day 2014 through Headless Owl and Forward Music.xo MF

Singer Songer announced to the world!
Exciting things are afoot. Singer Songer was announced this week. Due out on Record Store Day – (April 19), it’s an album on which I wrote a bunch of songs for some of my friends to sing. These songs are all now compiled on one limited edition record, thanks to my friends at Headless Owl and Forward Music. LPs will be available on Record Store Day, and CDs and digital sales will begin the following week. I am stoked for you all to hear this. I recorded and mixed it myself, with some singers recording here at my home or sending their own home recorded vocal takes through the air. For the most part, I wrote these songs with these singers in mind, and I feel immensely lucky that everyone I asked was game to jump in and give it a shot. I couldn’t be more proud.
Here’s the first track we’ve decided to share, featuring John K Samson.

In other news – I began rehearsals of new material for a new MF recording! We begin tracking on March 1, so it won’t be too long before there is even more new MF music. It’s great to be busy. For now, I won’t confuse the issue. Enjoy Singer Songer.
